19-31 October
Drove down on Monday. Caught an incredible sunset at a rest area.

Camped at Doheny Beach campground. I didn’t go in because of the risk of infection to the wound on my toe. But it was so beautiful. And I love to sit on the beach and listen to the surf and watch the waves and the birds.

After 2 days of training for a new workshop I’m learning – Immersive Storytelling – I headed south on a quick road trip. Stopped first at Orange County Creamery for some incredible ice cream. 🙂

On Saturday I went to Border Field State Park down by the border with Mexico. Beautiful stone work on one of the fences.

With all the recent rain, it was quite flooded out so I was unable to drive down to the beach. Hiked out a bit until it was impassible.

Next I went to the Mormon Battalion site in Old Town San Diego. Very well done.

Interactive experience throughout

Ending in a view over the Old Town

And some panning for gold haha.

Had lunch there at a picnic area and then drove out to a battlefield that turned out to be closed for renovations.

I camped that night at the Borrego Palm Canyon campground. Incredible night sky but the full moon blocked most of the stars.
Sunrise on Sunday morning…

Hiked around Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Went to church in a small branch in Julian. I walked in and the branch president asked if I could say the opening prayer haha. Very friendly people.

Last stop was the observatory at Palomar mountain. It’s a huge telescope!

Hard to see in the picture because we aren’t allowed inside except on the paid guided tour which I was just a few minutes too late to get into. 😦

They had to move the enormous lens by train all the way across the country!

Spent Sunday evening back at Doheny beach.

I love the beach shade tent that I have. Makes it feel like a private beach 🙂

Finished IST training that week (3 more days). This was the “mood board” and sweet words that my fellow trainees and trainers had for me. It was a lovely time.

Drove home on Halloween!
